I sighed in frustration as I rested my back against the tree. I had never felt so powerless. It was like watching some awful disaster approach and being unable to do anything to stop it. Feeling something crawling on my hand, I shook it, sending a large black ant into space. It landed on the ground near the foot of the tree. I watched, fascinated, as the little half-inch creature made its way along the fissures in the bark, apparently determined to climb the tree.
“Okay, ant,” I said, straightening my shoulders, “I get the point. You can’t give up when you meet an obstacle, you have to pick yourself up and try again.”
