If you laugh a lot, when you get older your wrinkles will be in the right places.

Thought of the Day - 8/28/10

If you have much, give of your wealth;
if you have little, give of your heart.

Thought of the Day - 8/27/10

If you depend on others to make you happy,
you will be endlessly disappointed.

Thought of the Day - 8/26/10

If you decide not to choose then you have already made the wrong choice.

Thought of the Day - 8/25/10

The distance between defeat and victory is measured by the distance it takes for us to fall on our knees before God in prayer.

Thought of the Day - 8/24/10

A parent's approval always matters, regardless of age.

Thought of the Day - 8/23/10

Buy a journal or start a blog. There is no better self-discovery tool.

Thought of the Day - 8/22/10

Sometimes I feel as if everybody else has come into the world with a set of instructions about how to live and someone had forgotten to give them to me. Sometimes I have no clue what I am supposed to feel, so much of the time I fake at being a human being, with no idea how other people feel. What is it like to really love someone? What is it like to really fit in or belong somewhere? I learned at an early age to give the impression of a normal, happy girl, but inside I have always felt lonely.

Thought of the Day - 8/21/10

I am one of the most unhelpless, self-sufficient people I know. Ask any man who has ever loved me. I do not want to depend on anybody for anything. I was taught it was wrong to depend on others. I have always taken care of myself. I didn’t want to need anybody.

Now I need to learn to depend on others and ask for help.

Thought of the Day - 8/20/10

I know that being in love all by yourself is the loneliest, most painful experience.

Thought of the Day - 8/19/10

You’ve heard the phrase: You can’t be too rich or too thin. Why doesn’t anyone say: You can be too poor or too fat?

Thought of the Day - 8/18/10

The problems we encounter that no one else seems to understand -- God sees.
The pain we feel -- God sees.
The tasks we perform for which no one thanks us or pats us on the back -- God sees.

Thought of the Day - 8/17/10

We can choose to accept the things we cannt change and learn to act on the things we can change.  We gain self-respect when we decide to stop blaming others for our dilemmas and start taking responsibility for our own choices.

Thought of the Day - 8/15/10

Thought of the Day - 8/14/10

If you are willing to admit you are wrong when you are wrong, you are all right.

If you are not enjoying your work, you should either change your attitude or change your job.

Thought of the Day - 8/12/10

If you are never scared, embarrassed, or hurt, it means you never take chances.

Thought of the Day - 8/11/10

I would do anything for you.

Continuing

Even though I was off-line, I continued to search and write my daily thoughts.  Over the next few days, I will be adding those thoughts to the blog.

Thought of the Day - 8/10/10

When I saw you the first time, I had no way of knowing how incredibly special you are on the inside.  How wise, how good.  I didn't know that I could feel the way I do -- whole and complete -- whenever I am with you.

I'm Back

Due to my health issues getting worse and a totally unexpected and difficult move, I have been off-line for four months.  I am truly sorry for being MIA.  I am so glad to be back on-line and can't wait to get back into blogging.

Thought of the Day - 8/9/10

If you are headed in the wrong direction, God allows U-turns.

Thought of the Day - 8/8/10

If you aim at nothing, you'll hit it every time.

Thought of the Day - 8/7/10

When a young woman can hear, see, and feel the love of her Father in heaven, she is changed.  Like a caterpillar emerges from a cocoon as a butterfly, a young woman can fly into womanhood in beauty and valor if we help her grasp the love of God.

Thought of the Day - 8/6/10

Little deeds of kindness,
Little words of love,
Make our earth an Eden,
Like the heaven above.

Thought of the Day - 8/5/10

Everyone loves to be loved.

Thought of the Day - 8/4/10

Nothing happens until all conditions are right.

Thought of the Day - 8/3/10

Today's thought of the day is dedicated to all of those who were so helpful and thoughtful one year ago when my mother passed away.

Perhaps you sent a lovely card,
Or sat quietly in a chair.
Perhaps you sent a floral piece,
If so, we saw it there.
Perhaps you spoke the kindest words,
As any friend could say.
Perhaps you were not there at all,
Just thought of us that day.
Whatever you did to console our hearts,
We thank you so much whatever the part.

I miss you, Mom!

Thought of the Day - 8/2/10

Everyone needs to learn to love him/herself.

Thought of the Day - 8/1/10

Ironic that the things men would do for love could be so much worse than the things they'd do out of hate.

Thought of the Day - 7/31/10

Puzzled, my friend got up and looked in the basket.  There were many bottles of pills.  She read the dates and names of the pills on the bottles.  The date on some of the bottles was almost a year ago, but the bottles looked almost full.

"I don't understand," she said.

"I have many bad days that bring me back crashing to earth.  What's a pill going to do about that!," I said.  "I'm afraid I'll take those pills and it won't get any better.  That nothing will change and what will I have to to look forward to then.  What will I hope for then?"

The haunted look on my face undid her.  I broke and she took me into her arms, cradling my head, and rocking me against her.

Thought of the Day - 7/30/10

Encouragement is so much easier when it is reciprocated.

Thought of the Day - 7/29/10

Images flashed, nothing I could help or stop, snatches of our romance, but it isn't the romantic part that I remembered most.  It was those homey moments, him fixing things around the house, me shaving his head, the way he has to eat so slowly, the way we both love pizza... I thought about how he was the only person in my life who didn't expect me to be the strong one all the time.  I thought about how safe I used to feel when I was in his arms.  I thought about how charming he is.

Thought of the Day - 7/28/10

I wonder if the problem is really his job or his guilt . . . or if we had unconsciously conspired together to keep a safe distance from a relationship that has all the potential to be lasting and real.

Thought of the Day - 7/27/10

Life is an adventure. It’s a wild ride through our 20s, 30s, and beyond. From the changing landscape of relationships to possibly marriage and motherhood; physical, financial, and emotional swings; to the lessons learned along the way, it’s generally not for the weak or wimpy, and definitely not for those traveling through life alone.

Thankfully, we have our girlfriends. From old friends who have known us for years, through relationships, hairstyles, and a variety of jeans sizes . . . to new friends we love connecting with, learning about/from, and with whom we enjoy watching our friendship grow.

Thought of the Day - 7/26/10

I am an impulsive, let-it-all-hang-out, emotional person.

Thought of the Day - 7/25/10

I am a mother!  That was the bottom line.  The mothering part of her was strong . . . so strong there is a tendency for it to squeeze out everything else.

Thought of the Day - 7/24/10

My pleasure in the day has returned.  I can't sort through the reasons and come up with the right one, but it had something to do with being included, and sharing, and being a part of a whole.

Thought of the Day - 7/23/10

Every child should have a dog.  You can't pick a better Christmas present to teach a child the true meaning of love.  Try spelling dog backward . . . it spells God.  A dog is always sad when you leave it and happy when you come back-- never asking where you were in between -- just as long as you come home.

Thought of the Day - 7/22/10

Love doesn't come easy -- not the kind of love that lasts.  It requires work and effort from both parties involved.

Thought of the Day - 7/21/10

Christmas is all about God and love.  It's something you cannot see or touch, but you have to have faith.

Thought of the Day - 7/20/10

There are days I wonder if I had the right to bring my children into this world.  (Look at all the problems: Kids deal with much more stuff in this generation.  Kids grow up faster.  Politics, environment, and wars have made the Earth worse.)

Thought of the Day - 7/18/10

I often look out the window and I see an ordinary world.  Ordinary trees, ordinary grass, ordinary blue sky, hardly changing from one year to the next.  Though most never see it, those of us with any sense know that an extraordinary force began all of this.  Sometimes, once in a great while, an ordinary person is allowed to see that extraordinary force.

We can't always understand why God chooses the vessel he chooses.  When He does choose a vessel, we'd better listen to the message.

Thought of the Day - 7/17/10

Think of yourself as a vessel, a cup.  Don't try to guess what the Master will pour into you before he pours.  Pray it is the Master who pours.  Then be willing to accept whatever message He wishes to fill you with.  It's His to fill.  You only receive.

Thought of the Day - 7/16/10

Sharing the struggles of life and death united even enemies.

Thought of the Day - 7/15/10

The path between the natural and the supernatural -- between evil and good -- is not such an easy path.  It's usually accomplished with things like death.  With tormenting.  Why do you suppose Christianity waves a cross on its flag?  Do you know how cruel the cross was?  You would think there might be a simpler, more humane means for God to bring about the death of His son.  Before fruit can grow, a seed must die.  Before a child is born, a mother must wail.

Thought of the Day - 7/14/10

We eat dinner every night together around the dinner table.  It is a time to share, teach, and have a sense of belonging.

Thought of the Day - 7/13/10

You can get through life if you realize at an early age that the only book in the world that really means anything is the Holy Bible.

Thought of the Day - 7/12/10

I can remember at the age of eleven thinking . . .

I haven't heard one fact of life that I liked yet.

Thought of the Day - 7/11/10

I may have several degrees and certificates, but I sure can be dumb sometimes.

Thought of the Day - 7/9/10

Your reputation is everything.  Your reputation is worth everything.

Thought of the Day - 7/8/10

As "they" say:  You can tell how a man will act towards his wife by the way he treats his mother.

Thought of the Day - 7/7/10

If you don’t obsess over staying young, getting older is easier.

~~ Daisy Fuentes ~~

Thought of the Day - 7/6/10

As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands. One for helping yourself, the other for helping others.

Thought of the Day - 7/5/10

Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you’ll find one at the end of your arm.

Thought of the Day - 7/3/10

People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed and redeemed and redeemed…

Time Tested Beauty Tips

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge you’ll never walk alone…

~~ Sam Levenson ~~

Thought of the Day - 7/1/10

Realize that you have hurt others, even if you didn't mean to. When you are self-destructive, negative, rude, disrespectful, angry, resentful, acknowledge it and forgive yourself. Start again because it is never too late to be the person you imagine yourself to be. Never, ever stop striving to be that person.

Thought of the Day - 6/30/10

Forgiveness is an act of consciousness. Forgiveness will liberate your spirit . . . so forgive those who have hurt you.

Thought of the Day - 6/29/10

Never blame others for what happens or does not happen to you. You, and only you, are in control of your actions and reactions. You choose how to respond to a crisis, turmoil, love, and happiness.

Thought of the Day - 6/28/10

Teenagers are so emotional and so unpredictable, and movies and video games are so permeated with violence that it is no wonder teenagers reach for a knife or gun when frustrated. I know of instances where teens killed parents for refusing to allow them to attend a rock concert or for making them go to church. Then there are the school shootings that seem to occur with sickening regularity ever since Columbine. I am convinced that all this youthful anger is a symptom that something is wrong, but I am not sure exactly what.

Maybe teenage boys should be sent off to live in a hut with tribal elders until they are deemed fit to marry and assume their place in society, as is the custom with some primitive tribes. Send the teens to some wise shaman who would teach him the secrets of manhood. Like most kids, my son is finding it hard to take advice from his mother when his mother is the very same person he is trying to separate himself from in order to establish his own identity.

There has to be a better way than the present system of intense peer pressure in junior high school/middle school/intermediate school/high school with the stress of academics and puberty.

Thought of the Day - 6/27/10

I sighed in frustration as I rested my back against the tree. I had never felt so powerless. It was like watching some awful disaster approach and being unable to do anything to stop it. Feeling something crawling on my hand, I shook it, sending a large black ant into space. It landed on the ground near the foot of the tree. I watched, fascinated, as the little half-inch creature made its way along the fissures in the bark, apparently determined to climb the tree.

“Okay, ant,” I said, straightening my shoulders, “I get the point. You can’t give up when you meet an obstacle, you have to pick yourself up and try again.”

Thought of the Day - 6/26/10

We said we loved each other, didn’t that mean anything? At the very least, it should mean I-take-your-calls-even-when-I’m-pissed-at-you.

Thought of the Day - 6/25/10

My grandmother used to say that you have to let bad news sink into your bones. You absorb it, and all the losses and setbacks in your life become a part of who you are.

Thought of the Day - 6/24/10

Dolori sono muti (Italian).
Great griefs are mute.

Thought of the Day - 6/23/10

No one is forbidden unless he chooses to be forbidden.

Thought of the Day - 6/22/10

Sexual attraction produces a great deal of energy between two people. It charges the air around them.

Thought of the Day - 6/21/10

It is comforting, not to mention extremely reassuring, to have him nearby. There is something solid and substantial about him. I am reluctant to let him go when he leaves.

Thought of the Day - 6/20/10

They (whomever they are) say a good relationship should be founded on something more substantial than subtlety and romance because those qualities never last long.

Thought of the Day - 6/19/10

The thought of him with another woman now, after what we’ve shared these past months, is very difficult to handle!

That realization hit me harder than any punch. He does not fit into the same category as the other men I have known. I am not going to be able to stay in the safe zone this time. When this was over I will be going down hard.

Thought of the Day - 6/18/10

I am saving myself. When it comes to feeling guilty about living or dealing with depression we can all hold out helping hands to each other, doctors can supply some very helpful medications, but in the end, each of us has to have the will to swim to shore on our own. No one can carry another person. Not for long, at any rate.

Thought of the Day - 6/17/10

The best tool in the world is worthless unless the man using it knows what he’s doing.

Thought of the Day - 6/16/10

There are not a lot of moments in life like this one. Moments such as this; when awareness and anticipation and the sheer thrill of being alive all come together in an intoxicating brew that made the heart sing and the pulse beat fast; such moments were to be savored and appreciated.

Thought of the Day - 6/15/10

The older you get, the more you understand that reality and fiction don’t have to match up. They are mirror images, not exact duplicates. They each have a place. Both are important. But they are not the same. A smart person doesn’t try to make one into the other.

Thought of the Day - 6/14/10

The thing about him is that I never had to worry about illusions or false reflections in a mirror. He is for real. And so is his love.

Thought of the Day - 6/13/10

In America a person of quality and class is not judged by aristocracy of birth but by his or her behavior.

Thought of the Day - 6/12/10

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
~~ Chinese Proverb ~~

Thought of the Day - 6/11/10

He says, “ I wish you would stop worry about every damn thing. You are going to drive yourself crazy.”

I can’t help it. I am a worrier! I was nervous as a child. I was nervous as a teenager. I have always been nervous.

If you have never been nervous, you don’t know what it’s like. People act like it is something I want to do. I don’t wake every morning and say, Oh, ZI just can’t wait to be a nervous wreck all day and worry myself to death about everybody and just about jump out of my skin every time the phone rings. I wish you would try to understand. I guess its just part of nature. Some animals are nervous and some animals aren’t. I don’t know why, but I am sure the good Lord has his reasons. You can’t change people’s nature. You can’t say to a bird, be more like a cow. Or a lion to be more like a monkey. I wish I could change.

Thought of the Day - 6/10/10

Why do you suppose people get flustered in the presence of beauty?

I suppose it’s because beauty is desirable – to be close to beauty is to be close to something you want. When you want something badly but cannot have it, you get flustered.

Thought of the Day - 6/9/10

News is all about timing. Get the story a day early and its news; get it a day late and its history.

Thought of the Day - 6/7/10

At the CETC they use a little white towel rolled up and taped at both ends. They have a room with a while wall full of holes. A trainer stands behind the wall with the towels; inside one of the holes is a sample of cocaine or heroin. When the dog detects the scent, he walks up to the hole and the man sticks the towel out – that’s the reward. The dog could care less about finding drugs; all he wants is the towel. That’s all the dog ever does – he spends his whole life searching for that little white towel.

What’s your little white towel?

Thought of the Day - 6/6/10

Why should I feel inferior? I had only learned these revelations myself a few days ago. I should not take responsibility for them. It isn’t about me; it was about my siblings, my parents – about things done to me and not about things I have done myself. None of it changed any essential fact about me – about the woman I am or the things I have managed to accomplish all on my own.

For some reason I still feel that something precious had been taken from me, and the feeling makes me angry and afraid. I hate that feeling – the feeling of being along, of being the only one different.

Thought of the Day - 6/5/10

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
