Have you noticed? I got a blog overhaul.
I was extremely excited and surprised to hear from Pamela and the 5 Minutes for Mom team during the Ultimate Blog Party. I won prize INTL 28, a Sassy Frass blog design.
I got a new custom header with matching background, revamped columns, a button you can grab, five buttons for my sidebar, and a signature button. Whoo hoo!
Melanie from Sassy Chic Designs was pleasant, patient, and professional.
I'm so excited about the new look of the blog. What do you think? Please be kind, though.
Since Melanie did such a super job on my blog I wanted to introduce her to you, my readers.
Melanie, a wife, mother, and employee. She enjoys blogging, photography, scrapbooking, sewing, cooking, and, of course, sassing blogs. Melanie had so much fun learning how to make her blog unique to reflect her distinctive personality that she now will help you do the same; hence Sassy Chic Designs. Melanie says,"Your blog is your home online and you have your house decorated, right?, so let's get your blog decorated."

Save the Internet
What makes all these assumptions possible is Network Neutrality.
Network Neutrality -- or "Net Neutrality" for short -- is the guiding principle that preserves the free and open Internet. Put simply, Net Neutrality means no discrimination. Net Neutrality prevents Internet providers from blocking, speeding up or slowing down Web content based on its source, ownership or destination.
Who wants to get rid of Net Neutrality?
The nation's largest telephone and cable companies -- including AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner -- want to be Internet gatekeepers, deciding which Web sites go fast or slow and which won't load at all.
But as a consequence of a 2005 decision by the Federal Communications Commission, Net Neutrality -- the foundation of the free and open Internet -- was put in jeopardy. Now cable and phone company lobbyists are pushing to block legislation that would reinstate Net Neutrality.
Writing Net Neutrality into law would preserve the freedoms we currently enjoy on the Internet. For all their talk about "deregulation," the cable and telephone giants don't want real competition. They want special rules written in their favor.
Learn how to tell apart the myths from the realities in this report, Network Neutrality: Fact vs. Fiction.
Who's part of the SavetheInternet.com Coalition?
The Save the Internet coalition is made up of hundreds of groups from across the political spectrum that are concerned about maintaining a free and open Internet. No corporation or political party funds our efforts. We simply agree to a statement of principles in support of Internet freedom.
The coalition is being coordinated by Free Press, a national, nonpartisan organization focused on media reform and Internet policy issues.
What can I do to help?
- Sign the Save the Internet petition.
- Call your members of Congress today and demand that Net Neutrality be protected.
- Encourage groups you're part of to sign the "Internet Freedom Declaration of 2007".
- Show your support for Internet freedom on your Web site or blog.
- Tell your friends about this crucial issue before it's too late.

Just do what you do best.
If you had to pick the one thing that you do best, what would it be? Perhaps you’re a chef extraordinaire, have an eye for style and design or plan parties like a pro. Tap into your talents this weekend, and who knows? You may decide you want to cook for a living, enroll in interior design school, or start your own event-planning company.
What do you do best? Tell us in the comments.
Business Blogging
Blogging in the last few years have become more and more popular. In fact, it is now a common household term. Most everyone with a computer now has a blog, irregardless if they are business people, work at home people, or even the stay at home moms. If you haven’t jumped into blogging, here are a few reasons why you should start blogging now.
If you haven’t noticed, blogs are a great communication tool. If you blog about your business, your blog will most likely have posts that focus on your business but, that doesn’t mean you can’t let your hair down a little. It’s quite alright to post about your personal life sometimes. You don’t have to go into detail - just enough for your readers to be able to relate to you.
Blogging allows you to let your “voice” be heard. Your readers will get to know you a bit more and you will be able to form a relationship with them. Soon, you will have some kind of interactivity with your readers especially when you allow them to comment on your blog. When possible, reply back to the comments. The back and forth bantering and conversation-style writing will keep your readers coming back for more.
You can use your blog as a way to figure out what your readers want from you. Ask them to leave you suggestions or questions about your business. You can even use these as the beginning of a new blog post/discussion. When you address questions from readers and you provide them with the answers they are looking for, you instantly promote yourself as an expert in your field. Soon, your readers and visitors will develop trust in you and your opinions.
Trust is a wonderful thing. The more people trust you, the more they will use and recommend your product/s. People only do business with people they know and trust. Blogging allows you to give your readers a sneak peek into your life and how you work.
If you already have a traditional website, blogging is an awesome way to promote your website. Blog about articles that are in your website - blog only a snippet of the article - like a teaser and add a link to the complete article in your website. This is an easy way to get incoming links to your existing site in your blog posts.
Blogs are also an excellent way to enhance your writing skills. Blog entries do not have to be very long.

Tuesday Toot #10
As I continue with my struggle to toot my own horn . . .
This week's toot . . .
- I have been taking all of my pills for one week straight. I was on 17 different kinds of medications but within the past few weeks I finally got it narrowed down to 8 pills (up to 24 doses, though). Having a pill organizer helps tremendously.
- I got my cards sent for the "I Love Being Carded" Card Swap.
- I'm still doing my hand exercises that my Occupational Therapist wants me to do.
- I created a chart for two of my children to use for an anger chart. Nothing fancy but it will work for the purpose I need it to work.
- I finished all the Easter decorations before Easter.

Top Ten Tuesday - Reasons I Love My Son
This week, on Thursday, my son celebrates his 11th birthday, so in honor of his first decade being over . . . and beginning the next decade . . .
I love Cameron because . . .
- I love his laugh, it bubbles out in an infectious wholehearted way.
- I love his big hugs he gives me every morning.
- I love his big beautiful blue eyes.
- I love how protective you are of your sister, especially if she is sad.
- I love how you often check on me while you are playing, running to whatever room I am in saying, "Hi, mom."
- I love how you say "I love you" every night before you go to sleep.
- I love how you sing so heartfully even though you don't know the words.
- I love the love and affection you show to your sister every night with a great big bear hug with a little silliness thrown in.
- I love how you tell jokes that only you understand and be totally amused by your own silliness.
- I love your wonderfully beautifully cute smile.

Love, Doubt, and Thumbs
He told me he loved me. I listened with only half an ear. The rest of my attention strayed. Perhaps our family values were different. Perhaps our religious values were different. Perhaps . . . I was using anything that came along to divert my thoughts from exactly the questions I should be carefully thinking over. Trying to solve the puzzle of my son's mental health issues is more savory to me than the conundrum my own life had become.
I should be happy, right? He said he loves me. But it was not from whom I expected or wanted it from.
I have made mistakes in the past. No doubt I am going to make a lot more. The trouble came with making choices that felt so right or so good while they were in progress. I gave my eldest son up for adoption 20 years ago and it still felt like the right choice. So why lately does it hurt so much?
With being "down for the count" for over 48 hours due to shots received in my right shoulder, I have had too much time to think, and then my mind rambles. I have been looking deep inside myself trying to discover who I am.
I am still searching for me but I do know that I am an independent, single mother who still needs love and still craves sucking her thumb when not feeling well.
Blogging Tips #1 - Tracking Your Blog in the Blogosphere
Are you curious who reads you? Do you want to know more about the people who link to you? Are you curious if someone is writing about the things you’ve said?
Bloggers love feedback. Whether it’s comments or emails, knowing that someone else out there was touched in some way by our writing gives us fuel to continue blogging. So how do you track what others are saying about you? What if there exists a whole group of fans who link to you, talk about you, but don’t send emails or leave comments?
The following is a primer on how to track conversations in the blogosphere.
Permalinks, Addresses and URL’s
The first thing to learn is your website URL. URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator, and is the “address” of your site on the Internet. A permalink is the the address, (or URL) of a specific blog post. When searching, learn to type in your main or homepage url to find people linking to you.
For best results in searches, skip the www.
Technorati
This is the big daddy of blog search. Technorati allows you to search by url, by tags, and in a directory.
Step 1: Claim your blog. Technorati has to know you are there to track what you are doing. Claim your blog, sign in to an account, and list a bunch of keywords that people can use to find your site. There are over 6,000 Mom blogs already in Technorati, so be creative with your tags.
Step 2: URL search. Find Posts that link to you. Type the URL of your blog into the box and click search. What comes up are all of the blogs that currently link to your blog. You can rank them by freshness, or authority, and it is the most comprehensive list. Not everyone is listed, but Technorati is a great way to find out who is linking to you.
Step 3: Searching in Tags. Tags are labels that people put into their post. Wordpress and Typepad allow you to customize your site to add Technorati tags, and it is a powerful way to push your posts to a larger topic. Check out “pregnancy” as a tag or “after school snacks.” As you can see, there aren’t many posts for after school snacks (only 22,000), but it does tell you when someone last wrote about them. The more specific you are in your tags, the better chance you have of being found. Pregnancy has more than 354,000 tags so the more specific, the better.
Step 4: Search in Directory. The tags you wrote when you claimed your blog places you in categories in the directory. While a tag search looks for individual posts, a directory search looks for blog descriptions.
Google Searches
The simplest way to track your blog in Google, or any search engine, is to type http://www.yourblogurl.com. This should bring up a list of all the pages cached in Google that link specifically to your website. This works fine for high ranking blogs, but it’s not complete, and doesn’t tell you a time reference.
For great ways to use Google to search out all kinds of topics, check out their cheat sheet.
Google Alerts
Log in to Google (create a personal account if you do not already have one) and create Google alerts. These emails track keywords, names, and websites you enter and forward them to you when Google first caches them Google alerts work both to tell when someone is linking to you and when they are speaking of you without a link.
BlogPulse
Search engines all have different algorithms, so for fun, type your name and blog into different search engines to get different results:
Sphere
Blogger
MSN Live
Ask.com
Dogpile
Blogpulse
There are literally hundreds of different ways to track yourself in the blogosphere. Find the sites you like best and join in the conversation.

Happy Easter!

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, who upon this day did conquer death and rise from the dead, and who lives forever more, help us never to forget Your presence is forever with us.
Help us to remember,
That you are with us in times of perplexity to guide and direct,
That you are with us in times of sorrow to comfort and console,
That you are with us in times of temptation to strengthen and inspire,
That you are with us in times of loneliness to cheer and befriend,
That you are with us even in death to bring us to the glory of Your side.
Lord in your mercy, please hear our prayer. Amen.
Christ the Lord is risen today! Hallelujah!
Addicted
It is official I am addicted to blogs and blogging. I love reading about other people's lives and also sharing my life with others. I can learn about people and their lives, as well as, share mine. It is an addiction, though harmless, that keeps me consumed with the computer.
I have discovered blogs on adoption, feminism, depressed moms, saving money, new beginnings, and every kind of religious and political blog you could imagine. I am so taken with the honesty of some people and the hidden agenda of others.
It is a bit like Alice in the Looking Glass. However, how honest are blogs. What is going on under the surface -- the inside that only you and God know -- that is not revealed.
I will never know many of the people in the blogs I read. What I do know is their lives help me live a little better.

Thought of the Day - 4/9/09
God's Boxes
I have in my hands two boxes,
Which God gave me to hold.
He said, Put all your sorrows in the black box,
And all your joys in the gold.
I heeded His words, and in the two boxes,
Both my joys and sorrows I stored,
But though the gold became heavier each day,
The black was as light as before.
With curiosity, I opened the black,
I wanted to find out why,
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole,
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.
I showed the hole to God, and mused,
I wonder where my sorrows could be!
He smiled a gentle smile and said,
My child, they're all here with me.
I asked God, why He gave me the boxes,
Why the gold and the black with the hole?
My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go.

Thursday Thirteen #11
All moms are busy moms, some busier than others, but we are all busy. How we find the time to blog always amazes me. But blog we must!
Why do we moms blog? There are hundreds of reasons, but here is a brief list:
- We blog because we want family and friends around the world to get a snapshot of our daily lives.
- We blog because we have stories to share.
- We blog because we have pictures to show that we don't want to keep to ourselves.
- We blog about extraordinary achievements, such as walking when we're told he may never walk or getting 100 points in Accelerated Reading in second grade when its usually not achieved until 3rd or 4th grade.
- We blog about ordinary moments just to celebrate the importance of everyday life.
- We blog because we have something to say or sometimes because we just need to vent.
- We blog because we know our families are unique and because at the same time we need to know that we're not the only family in the world whose sweet children are sometimes disgusting or out of control.
- We blog because we need advice.
- We blog because we've found a way to do something that makes our lives easier and want to pass it on.
- We blog because messy houses and wrinkled clothes are real and in this great crazy world, it's good to know we're all in this together, and that no matter what we do or say or feel, we can find reassurance that the kids will be okay as long as they are loved.
- We blog to remember the good and to forget the bad.
- We blog to feel connected. We want to prove that we, as mothers, all share the frustrations and upheavals, as well as the joys and delights of being a mother.
- We blog because we know that we can learn from each other, and because any community -- even an Internet one -- is a positive thing.

Folding king size sheets is hard when you are only 5'1" tall and have troubles with your hands and shoulders, so I've been on a search for a simple, easy way to fold fitted sheets.

Be a Bread Artist
Decorate a slice of virtual bread for The Bread Art Project and $1 will be donated to food banks.
Check out my Art in the Toasting and get some serious facts about the food banks and the hungry in America.
Your participation in the Bread Art Project will help families in need. For every approved submission, the Grain Foods Foundation will donate $1 to Feeding America, the largest hunger relief organization in the U.S. That $1 will go much further than you'd think. In fact, Feeding America turns every dollar received into 10 pounds of grocery products for deserving men, women, and children. Since food banks are experiencing a 30% increase in demand since this time last year, there's never been a better time to support this important cause. With your help, we're on our way to providing 1 million pounds of groceries to hungry Americans.

I Asked God
I asked God to take away my habit.
God said no. It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said no. His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.
I asked God to grant me patience.
God said no. Patience is a by-product of tribulations. It isn't granted; it is learned.
I asked God to grant me happiness.
God said no. I give you blessings. Happiness is up to you.
I asked God to spare me pain.
God said no. Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.
I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said no. You must grow on your own. But, I will prune you to make you fruitful.
I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said no. I will give you life so that you may enjoy all things.
I asked God to help me love others as much as He loves me.
God said, Ahhh... finally you have the idea.

Create Your Own 1001 Day Project
The Mission
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria
Tasks must be specific (i.e., no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (i.e., represent some amount of work on your part).
Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past. The most common list-making is the simple goals of a New Year's resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.
Goal Setting Tips
1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it.
2. Stay Focused. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.
3. Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.
4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.
5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.

The true and lasting source of our happiness comes from the joy that fills our hearts and overflows into the paths of those around us.
Locking Lips Boasts Health Advantages
We've all heard things like kissing burns calories (2 to 3 per minute), and generally boosts our self esteem (how could a smooch or two not?). But consider this:
Muscles
Did you know that we use 30 facial muscles when kissing (or furthermore, that we even have 30 facial muscles)? Say goodbye to baggy cheeks.
Dental
The extra saliva produced during a kiss helps break down oral plaque.
Cardiovascular
Kissing creates adrenaline, which prompts your heart to pump more blood through your body. Allegedly, frequent kissing has been scientifically proven to decrease blood pressure and cholesterol, too.
Nervous System
Kissing is said to calm your mind by increasing levels of oxytocin, a calming hormone, which creates a "peaceful feeling."
That said, what are you waiting for?! Grab your loved one and help give each other a little lift of health (and love)!

Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen.
Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?
Water - The Beverage Your Body Needs Most
Drinking water is so important for good health. When you were a kid in school, you learned that each molecule of water is made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. You may also have learned that it was great fun to fill up your squirt guns with water, at least until the principal caught you. What you may not have learned, however, was how much water you needed in order to be a healthy human being.
Why You Need to Drink Water
Your body is estimated to be about 60 to 70 percent water. Blood is mostly water, and your muscles, lungs, and brain all contain a lot of water. Your body needs water to regulate body temperature and to provide the means for nutrients to travel to all your organs. Water also transports oxygen to your cells, removes waste, and protects your joints and organs.
Signs of Dehydration
You lose water through urination, respiration, and by sweating. If you are very active, you lose more water than if you are sedentary. Diuretics such as caffeine pills and alcohol result in the need to drink more water because they trick your body into thinking you have more water than we need.
Symptoms of mild dehydration include chronic pains in joints and muscles, lower back pain, headaches and constipation. A strong odor to your urine, along with a yellow or amber color indicates that you may not be getting enough water. Note that riboflavin, a B Vitamin, will make your urine bright yellow. Thirst is an obvious sign of dehydration and in fact, you need water long before you feel thirsty.
How Much Water do You Need to Drink?
A good estimate is to take your body weight in pounds and divide that number in half. That gives you the number of ounces of water per day that you need to drink. For example, if you weigh 160 pounds, you should drink at least 80 ounces of water per day. If you exercise you should drink another eight ounce glass of water for every 20 minutes you are active. If you drink alcohol, you should drink at least an equal amount of water. When you are traveling on an airplane, it is good to drink eight ounces of water for every hour you are on board the plane. If you live in an arid climate, you should add another two servings per day. As you can see, your daily need for water can add up to quite a lot.
Twenty percent of your water need will come from the foods you eat. The rest of your water need should come from the beverages you drink. Water is the best choice. Sodas have a lot of sugar in them, so if you drink sodas, you may take in more calories than you need. Herbal teas that aren't diuretic are fine. Sports drinks contain electrolytes and may be beneficial, just look out for added sugar and calories that you don't need. Juices are good because they have vitamins and nutrients.
Caffeinated beverages will also add to your daily water need. Even though caffeine is a diuretic, if you regularly consume caffeine, your body will regulate itself to that diuretic effect.
Drink Enough Water
It may be difficult to drink enough water on a busy day. Be sure you have water handy at all times by keeping a bottle for water with you when you are working, traveling, or exercising. If you get bored with plain water, add a bit of lemon or lime for a touch of flavor. There are some brands of flavored water available, but watch for extra calories.
Thought of the Day - 4/3/09
I'm a pretty successful guy, but when I go to an occasional reunion at my prep school, in ten seconds I'm not the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. I'm back to feeling like a clumsy nerd everyone else had fun picking on. Crazy, isn't it?

Thought of the Day - 4/1/09
Once upon a time when people made more of their own things, they created more stories about their life experiences. They told these tales to each other... to celebrate, mourn, worship, and mostly to connect with each other. Sharing real-life stories was an essential element in forging friendships, alliances, families and communities. It brought individuals a greater intimacy with each other and, simultaneously, a stronger sense of self.

Spread the Word to End the Word
Most people don’t think of this word as hate speech, but that’s exactly what it feels like to millions of people with intellectual disabilities, their families, and friends. Using “retard” as a term of derision is just as cruel and offensive as any other slur.
Spread the Word to End the Word will raise the consciousness of society about the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the R-word and encourage people to pledge to stop using it. America will be asked to declare their support for more respectful and inclusive language, specifically that referring to those with intellectual disabilities.
Have you taken the pledge? Let us know by signing Mr. Linky below.

Make Me Laugh Monday - Me
The boss wondered why one of his most valued employees had not phoned in sick one day. Having an urgent problem with one of the main computers, he dialed the employee's home phone number and was greeted with a child's whisper.
"Hello."
"Is your daddy home?" he asked.
"Yes," whispered the small voice.
"May I talk with him?"
The child whispered, "No ."
Surprised and wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, "Is your Mommy there?"
"Yes ."
"May I talk with her?"
Again the small voice whispered, "No ."
Hoping there was somebody with whom he could leave a message, the boss asked, "Is anybody else there?"
"Yes," whispered the child, "a policeman".
Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked, "May I speak with the policeman?"
"No, he's busy," whispered the child.
"Busy doing what?"
"Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the fireman," came the whispered answer.
Growing more worried as he heard a loud noise in the background through the earpiece on the phone, the boss asked, "What is that noise?"
"A helicopter," answered the whispering voice.
"What is going on there?" demanded the boss, now truly apprehensive.
Again, whispering, the child answered, "The search team just landed a helicopter."
Alarmed, concerned and a little frustrated the boss asked, "What are they searching for?"
Still whispering, the young voice replied with a muffled giggle, "Me."
Join me in the fun and giggles by sharing a silly story. Add your link to your Make Me Laugh Monday post to Mr. Linky below. (All links not leading directly to your post will be deleted. All posts should be funny in some way. Yes, this is up to interpretation. Ideas include riddles, comic strips, jokes, silly graphics, funny lyrics, etc.)
Keep Your Cellular Phone Safe
Have you ever wondered why phone companies don't seem interested in trying to prevent the theft of mobile phones? If you have ever lost your phone or had your phone stolen, and if you are on a plan, you still have to pay the remainder of the plan. On top of that you have to buy another handset and enter into another contract. This is more revenue for the phone company.
There is a simple way of making lost or stolen cellular phones useless to thieves. The mobile phone companies know about it, obviously, but don't share this tip with their customers. So I'll share:
To check your mobile phone's serial number, type star-pound-zero-six-pound (*#06#) on your phone:
A fifteen digit code will appear on the screen. This is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it safe.
Should your mobile phone get lost or stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset, so even if the thief changes the Sim card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either.
Why I'm a Girl Scout Leader
I'm not a Girl Scout Leader for the easy hours, high pay, parents' gratitude power or prestige.
I'm a Leader because I want the world for your daughter and mine
A world she can share and help shape,
A world of love and laughter where she can show compassion.
I want to help her learn to finish anything she starts and do it well and to guide her to know her worth with a deeper understanding of herself.
I want to help shape women who have strength of character and are sensitive to the needs of others.
I want them to be the best they can be - whether as career women or as homemakers, wives, or mothers who are the hearts of the family.
In giving of my time and myself I reap rewards far beyond what I give.
I receive a better world for my children and future generations.
I'm a Girl Scout Leader because I care.

If you keep focusing on everyone else’s journey, you’re going to stop paying quality attention to your own. What I mean by quality attention is attention free from jealousy, worry, envy, strife, etc.; just a calm, objective look at your own journey that can provide answers to help move you forward or to even determine what that journey should be in the first place.

The Ultimate Blog Party - Winners
All the numbers have been tabulated (thanks to Random Number Generator), answers were reviewed for qualifying party go-ers, and finally winners chosen.
Many party go-ers did not read the introductions thoroughly and so were, unfortunately, removed from the final qualifying round. At each blog, I asked a specific question and kindly requested a specific answer. If the question was overlooked or not answered, the individual was sadly eliminated. Luckily, many party go-ers did read the introductions, so the winners are...
At All Things Cherished, Aunt Rene (#20) of Aunt Rene won Pillow Talk by iMom.
At 365 Days of Christmas, Blp3 (#28) of Let's Talk Politics won The Heart and Home of Christmas by Karla Dornacher.
At 365 Day of Memories, Jenny (#52, non-blogger) won the four pack of handmade cards made by me.
At 365 Days of Organization, Forest Green (#51) of Katrina Relocators won a planner.
Congratulations to all the winners!
Thanks to so many for all the compliments about me and my blogs this past week. I have been truly touched by your kindness.

God Bless The USA
by Lee Greenwood
If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be living here today.‘
Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.
And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.‘
Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.
From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well, there's pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say.
That I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.‘
Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.
And I’m proud to be and American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.‘
Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

All About Memes
Let’s talk about memes, what they are, and why they are good for your blog.
What is a meme?
A meme is a group of bloggers who blog about something similar at a set time, and then visit each other in order to get to know each other better and grow traffic to their own blogs.
How does it work?
Generally, a meme is hosted by a particular blog. Some, like Thursday Thirteen, have a dedicated site of their own. Others, like Tackle It Tuesday are hosted by a pre-existing blog. Each week or month, depending on the meme, a new theme or topic is posted and then participants post links to their meme post. For example, every Thursday, Thursday Thirteen participants post a list of 13 things on a topic of their choice, and then post their link on the hosting site. Participants then visit each other throughout the week and leave comments for other participants.
What is the benefit?
Doing memes can bring in new readers and improves traffic stats. Regular participation will produce loyal readers and build a more personal connection with your readers, which is good for your blog.
Is a meme a good option for you?
Participating in a meme takes time. In order for it to be effective, you need to take the time to visit and comment on other participants blogs each week. Otherwise, they will quickly stop visiting you as well.
There are many memes to choose from on many different topics.

One Day to Earth Hour 2009
3,900 cities and towns in 84 countries around the world will turn out for Earth Hour. More than 300 cities and towns in the U.S. representing 43 states and the District of Columbia are going dark as part of the largest global climate event in history. Before the rooster crows in most American cities on Saturday morning, lights will already have gone dark in cities like Christchurch, Sydney, and Brisbane. By breakfast time on the U.S. East Coast, the cities of Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Singapore, and Manila will be celebrating the arrival of the largest global climate event in history. Just before lunchtime in America, the lights will be dimming in Mumbai, Amman, and Dubai. And by early afternoon in New York, it will be lights out in Paris, Istanbul, London, and Copenhagen.
Momentum continues to build. With just one day to go, Earth Hour continues to gain support in cities, with government leaders and celebrities, in the media, and on social networking sites.
Read all about it. Earth Hour coverage breaks nationally this week, with articles in People Magazine and The New York Times.
What will you be doing when the lights go out? From parties by candlelight to flashlight tag to simply going outside and enjoying the stars, there's no end to the ways people are planning to "turn out" for Earth Hour this weekend. What will you be doing? Tell us about it. Sign Mr. Linky below if you are planning to celebrate the largest climate shout-out in history.
Thought of the Day - 3/27/09
In the midst of life's busy-ness, I am challenged . . .
to pause,
to breath deeply,
to contemplate.
Poverty . . . To Be or Not To Be
I'm 41, got a net worth of $0. Poverty is a subsidized house, an old used car with dents, dings, & rust, Goodwill & yard sale & passed down clothing, no money to travel & play, no money to save or invest, no retirement, no safety net, nothing.
I was recently told I don't know what poverty is. Most people who know me don't know I'm poor because this is not a fact to share with your neighbors, fellow PTO members, friends . . . even family.
I don't want to continually justify myself to others. I don't choose to be poor but I am. I don't choose to not be able to work a regular full-time job due to various health issues but I am not able to work. I don't choose to not have the financial help from the fathers of my children but I am a single mother.
I wouldn't change anything because I am home with my children when they need me. I wish I had better health, I wish the father's would pay their child support, I wish I had more money for basics.
I may not be able to go out to a restaurant for dinner, I may not be able to afford luxuries like a cellular phone, I may not be able to sign my kids up for fun activities like dance or karate. But I'd rather be poor and home for my children.
I may be poor but I am not low class.

Make Me Laugh Monday - Supermarket Surround Sound
New Supermarket Surround Sound
The new supermarket near my house has an automatic water mister to keep the produce fresh. Just before it goes on, you hear the sound of distant thunder and the smell of fresh rain. When you approach the milk cases, you hear cows mooing and smell the scent of fresh hay. When you approach the egg case, you hear hens cluck & cackle and the air is filled with the pleasing aroma of bacon & eggs frying. The vegetable department features the smell of fresh buttered corn.
I don't buy toilet paper there any more.
Join in making Mondays better by smiling &/or laughing. Share a joke, a comic strip, a picture, a riddle . . . as long as its clean (remember we are a family blog). Add the link to your post to Mr. Linky below.

~~ Charles Dickens ~~
It's the first day of Spring . . . for me the first day of new.
Today, I got a hair cut -- 13 inches of hair -- cut. T-h-i-r-t-e-e-n inches! I needed a change and what better day for a new change, a new look than the first day of Spring?!
I have donated my hair to Locks of Love too. I am so happy to be able to do this for others. As a survival of cancer and chemotherapy, I understand the need to feel accepted and not ostracized due to being bald.
What is Locks of Love?
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.
Mission Statement of Locks of Love
Our mission is to return a sense of self-confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive hair prostheses free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial need.
Happy Spring!
What did you do today to celebrate the first day of Spring?
Thought of the Day - 3/20/09
Your closest relationships are growing even closer, but don't miss out on opportunities to start new ones, either. There is plenty of room in your life for friendship.
Thursday Thirteen #10
Tomorrow is the first day of Spring and I am going to get my hair cut to celebrate. Why is this a big deal? I'm getting, at least, 9 inches cut off.
Thirteen Reasons Why I am Cutting Hair
- I am cutting my hair because it does not look healthy because of all the split ends.
- I am cutting my hair because my hair is heavy.
- I am cutting my hair because, I think, the heaviness of my hair causes some of my headaches.
- I am cutting my hair because its time for a change.
- I am cutting my hair because its been 6 years since I had a hair cut.
- I am cutting my hair because I cannot comb the knots out by myself due to the long length.
- I am cutting my hair because my daughter, 7, has to comb my hair for me.
- I am cutting my hair because at night the dogs are constantly laying on my hair. Ouch!
- I am cutting my hair because my hair often gets stuck in my coat zipper, shirt buttons, and necklaces.
- I am cutting my hair because trying to style my hair is useless due to the long length.
- I am cutting my hair because I am tired of pony-tails.
- I am cutting my hair because I use a lot of shampoo and conditioner, a big waste.
- I am cutting my hair because I use a lot of hair color because one box is not enough to cover all of my hair.
After this list, I guess its about time to cut my hair. Good thing I already scheduled my hair salon appointment.
Check out other fun, witty, interesting lists at Thursday Thirteen.
What is Blogging
What is blogging?
This is an overview of the development of weblogs and an introduction to the ways you might use a weblog.
Blogs are frequently updated web pages on which authors post short comments about news items, interesting websites, their thoughts, and more. Blogs are part of a publishing revolution that allows individuals to express themselves to the world. Blogs are easy to create, easy to maintain, and fun to read.
(n.) Short for Web log, a blog is a Web page that serves as a publicly accessible personal journal for an individual. Typically updated daily, blogs often reflect the personality of the author.
(v.) To author a Web log.
Other forms: Blogger (a person who blogs).
A Short History
In the early days of the Internet, each new page was a cause for celebration. The early pioneers watched in excitement as the network grew, and they wanted to keep people informed about this growth. In 1992, Internet pioneer Tim Berners-Lee created the first "What’s New" page. Later, another pioneer, Marc Andreesen, put up a similar page. Each had hot-links to the new pages springing up on the Net.
As the Internet grew and the World Wide Web came about, other programmers created hand-coded pages with their recommendations for surfing the Net. Justin Hall started his filter log in 1994. In 1998, Jorn Barger coined the term “weblog.”
Soon, says weblogger and author Rebecca Blood, these “link-driven sites” were very popular, and webloggers became a community. Each weblog included a list of similar filter sites.
In 1999, website Blogger began to offer a simpler way to create a weblog. This hosted service allowed any person to easily sign up, create a blog, and write numerous postings. All without having to know HTML.
Since then, millions of weblogs have been created. The term is now pronounced web-log or we-blog, but usually shortened to blog. These blogs evolved into personal diaries or journals.
Many journal-blogs still do include a list of other similar sites. This is a called a blogroll.
So, get blogging, so we can learn more about you and share more in your life.

The Party
Welcome to my cherished life.
When I host a party, at home or online, I serve . . . pizza rolls with several types of sauces, various flavors of chips with dill dip, chocolate chip cookies, cocktail meatballs & wieners, and tortilla chips with taco dip.
Here are some of my favorite recipes.
Chocolate Chip Cookies
2-1/2 c all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c butter or margarine
1/2 c shortening
1 c brown sugar, packed
1/2 c granulated sugar
2 eggs
1-1/2 tsp vanilla
1 12-oz. package (2 c) chocolate chips -- I usually add more than this.
Stir together flour, soda, and salt. In a mixer bowl, beat butter and shortening on medium speed for 30 seconds. Add sugars and beat until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Add dry ingredients to beaten mixture, beating until well combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
Drop from a teaspoon 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 375* oven for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove and let cool. Makes about 60.
Cocktail Meatballs
1 lb ground beef/chuck
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
1/3 c finely chopped onions
1/4 c milk
1 Tbsp parsley
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/8 tsp pepper
1 egg
1/4 c shortening
Sauce
1 10-oz. ketchup
1 10-oz. grape jelly
Mix ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, milk, parsley, salt, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, and egg. Shape into 1” balls. Cook meatballs in shortening in 12” skillet until brown. Remove and drain excess fat. Heat 1-10 oz bottle ketchup and 1-10 oz jar grape jelly in skillet, stir constantly till jelly is melted. Add meatballs and stir until coated. At this point you can put into a crockpot on low. Simmer 30 minutes. Serve hot. Makes 5 dozen.

But people will never forget how you made them feel.
Works for Me Wednesday #14
You can add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.

Beauty, truth, friendship, love, creation -- these are the great values of life. We can't prove them, or explain them, yet they are the most stable things in our lives.

Around the 'Net - Plinky
The fact that there are tens of thousands of results for "blogger's block" suggests that more than a few of you have struggled to think of what to say on your blog at one time or another. If that sounds like you, you might want to take a look at Plinky. Plinky is the brainchild of one of the original Blogger team-members, Jason Shellen, and we've enjoyed seeing what people have come up with in the first few weeks of answering Plinky prompts.
Every day Plinky provides a prompt (i.e. a question or challenge) and you answer. They make it simple to add rich media and share your answers on Facebook, Twitter, and blogs.
Not only does Plinky provide help with what to post to your Blogger blog, but it also helps your answers look good in the process. Depending on the prompt, answers contain rich media elements like maps, photos, lists and cover art for books, movies and albums. It's easy to tell Plinky that you use Blogger and all your answers posted through Plinky can go right to your blog.
What are you waiting for? Go answer a prompt.
